FAQs
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is holistic medicine that involves the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body. These points lie along meridians- channels through which Qi, our vital energy flows. By stimulating these points, acupuncture helps restore balance, reduce inflammation, improve circulation and support overall harmony.
Modern research shows that acupuncture can influence the nervous system, immune function, and endocrine system, encouraging the body's natural healing processes. It is commonly used for pain relief, stress reduction, and a wide range of health concerns.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Many patients find the experience deeply relaxing and often rest or even fall asleep during treatment! The needles are extremely fine, you may feel a mild sensation such as a warmth tingling or a dull ache which is a normal sign that the point is being activated.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person, depending on your specific condition, how long you've had it, and your overall health. Some conditions improve after one to five treatments, others may require a longer course for lasting relief.
Typically, I recommend 5 weekly sessions, and then reassess depending on continuous feedback and observation to ensure treatment is unique to your individual need.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes. When performed by a qualified, licenced practitioner, acupuncture is considered very safe. The needles used are extremely fine, single use, and sterile, eliminating the risk of cross contamination.
Side effects are rare and typically mild, such as a slight soreness or a small bruise at the needle site. Acupuncture is suitable for people of all ages and is widely recognised as a safe, effective, and natural form of healthcare.
